Head Games came out shortly after I finished grad school at New England Conservatory.  Some of tunes on it, such as Squaring the Circle are outgrowths from composition assignments.  Fall, Recover was first an improvisation I created while accompanying a modern dance class at Boston Conservatory, just up the block from NEC.  The solo piano tracks are mostly inspired by discussions with one of my NEC mentors, Paul Bley, whose approach to freely improvising harmonic sequences led me to create music somewhere between jazz and classical.

The group tracks Green Line Blues; Fall, Recover; It Happened Again; Another Excuse; and Squaring the Circle feature some super-star teachers and friends from NEC, George Garzone on tenor, Bob Moses on drums, and Mark Pucci on bass.  On the title track, Head Games, as well as Song for Ruth, I'm playing with my good friends Greg Holt and Bill Arcarese.

Head Games first came out in 1996, on Brownstone Records.
